President's Blog - November 19, 2014

The Mission of NAGAP is to support, advance and engage graduate enrollment professionals by promoting integrity, excellence and collaboration through education and professional development.

I’m pleased to announce that we have redesigned NAGAP’s email newsletter: NAGAP News, which will be published twice each month and will provide information on events, spotlight on members, important GEM news and more! The goal of this new format is to reduce the volume of individual emails that you receive from NAGAP while increasing the relevance of the newsletter. A big thank you to Jennifer Kulbeck, Editor and Publications Chair, and her committee for overseeing this change and for their commitment to provide relevant and compelling news to our GEM colleagues. As NAGAP News is for you, the membership, we encourage you to provide us with feedback so we can do our best to meet the needs of our diverse membership.

Now that school has been in session for a couple of months, I hope that you are finding time to breathe again and to attend to the tasks that get pushed aside each year as we begin a new school year. As tradition holds, November reminds us to take a minute and reflect and to express gratitude to family, friends and those we work with. I invite you to consider thanking and recognizing the colleagues on your campuses for the support they provide you. I don’t know about you, but I can think of several departments I work with in a GEM context, who might not understand how valuable they are to my success and the quality of the service my office provides.

I’m pleased to report that NAGAP was selected to present at AACRAO’s SEM conference. Dr. Tom Rock, Associate Dean at Teachers College, Columbia University, former NAGAP President, and a member of the Education Committee co-presented and led a discussion on GEM with Dr. Monique L. Snowden, AACRAO’s Vice President for Access and Equity and Vice President for Academic and Enrollment Services at Fielding Graduate University. Stay tuned for more information!

Allow me to extend an invitation to you to consider attending NAGAP’s Winter Institute this January in San Juan, Puerto Rico! Registration is open for this important and relevant conversation so secure your seat fast.

As the holiday season approaches and before time gets away from us, I encourage you to mark your calendars and make plans to attend our annual conference this April in New Orleans! I know that the Conference and the Education Committees are hard at work reading your presentation proposals and planning professional development opportunities that are a must have in our work as GEM professionals.

Sincerely,

James Crane

NAGAP President
